Acupuncture – weight loss and stop smoking

Two goals, one principle. Whether you want to lose weight or stop smoking – in both cases the addiction is the real opponent. Our ear acupuncture takes it away and calms you, so that you can hold out relatively stress-free with what you have set out to do.

Acupuncture in addiction treatment

Acupuncture has been practised for more than two thousand years. In the treatment of addictions – to food as well as to nicotine – we use ear acupuncture: fine semi-permanent needles are placed at specific points of the auricle and remain there under a plaster. They suppress the urge for food and nicotine and at the same time have a strongly calming effect.

Dr Andrea Kerle has worked with acupuncture since 1987 – for over 30 years. As a medical specialist she accompanies both programmes with an eye on your state of health, your medication and your personal situation. This area is open to women and men – many patients travel long distances for it.

What sets us apart

  • Experience. Acupuncture since 1987, many years of the Schlüsener method in Berlin – we know what we are doing.
  • Medical supervision. Pre-existing conditions and medication are clarified in advance; during treatment we are there for you.
  • Structure. Clear plans, weekly appointments, support by phone if you live far away.
  • Honesty. There is no miracle diet and no magic spell against cigarettes. There is a proven method and your resolve. Together they lead to the goal.

Costs

We offer weight reduction as a complete package for €120 (returning patients €60), and smoking cessation likewise for €120. Both treatments are self-pay services.

Legal notice: Acupuncture is a complementary medical method; its effectiveness for weight reduction and smoking cessation is not generally recognised by scientific evidence.

Questions & answers

How much weight can I lose?

That depends on your starting weight, your metabolism and your consistency. Those who stick exactly to the diet plan during the three weeks of the reduction phase see a clear change on the scales – those who only half do it see nothing. There is no such thing as “half” an addiction treatment. We deliberately do not give specific figures; every body is different, and the law rightly forbids doctors to make such promises.

Do the needles make me lose weight?

No – the needles take away your craving for food. The change of diet does the weight loss. The acupuncture ensures that you can keep it up without constantly fighting hunger.

Is the diet during treatment one-sided?

No. Your body receives all the necessary vitamins, minerals and trace elements, as well as sufficient protein. What is reduced is the amount of calories, not the supply of nutrients.

Is the treatment safe for my health?

The method has been in use for decades and the diet is designed so that no deficiency arises. As a medical specialist, Dr Kerle clarifies your state of health, pre-existing conditions and medication in advance. With high blood pressure, diabetes and unfavourable blood values, the readings frequently improve as the weight comes down, in our experience – medication is monitored and adjusted medically during this time. Acupuncture is considered low-risk when performed professionally; extremely rarely (around 1 in 50,000) a minimal pinhead-sized bruise can occur at the puncture site. Hypoallergenic needles and plasters are available – and if you really dislike needles: for needle-phobic patients we keep adhesive metal pellets ready that work via acupressure; we explain how they are used.

How does the treatment affect blood pressure?

With any reduction in food intake, blood pressure drops slightly. In most cases no countermeasure is needed. If you take blood pressure medication, we check your readings during treatment and adjust the dose if necessary – never on your own.
