More than a TSH value
Many women know the situation: the TSH value is "still normal", yet the complaints remain. We measure completely – TSH, free T4 and free T3, and the antibodies where Hashimoto's is suspected – and interpret the values in the context of your complaints, not just against the laboratory norm. The thyroid is closely interwoven with the female hormones: an unrecognised underactive thyroid can lie behind cycle disorders, an unfulfilled desire for a child and exhaustion.
Hashimoto's thyroiditis
In this most common cause of an underactive thyroid, the immune system attacks the gland. We treat Hashimoto's including a check of your selenium supply – selenium is the thyroid's most important micronutrient – and additionally support the immune process through nutrition and gut health.
Hypothyroidism: when T4 alone is not enough
The standard treatment is T4 (levothyroxine). But T4 is only the precursor – the hormone becomes effective only after conversion into T3, and this conversion takes place largely in the liver. In some patients it works insufficiently: the values look good, yet the complaints remain. We detect the causes of such conversion problems and treat them specifically – where necessary with a combination therapy of T4 and T3, with substitution of missing amino acids and with liver regenerators that support the conversion.
Typical reasons for a clarification
- persistent tiredness and exhaustion despite "normal" values
- weight gain, feeling cold, dry skin, hair loss
- cycle disorders and an unfulfilled desire for a child
- an existing T4 therapy without satisfactory effect
Thyroid clarification is part of our hormone consultation – one appointment is enough for the conversation, the examination and the blood sample.
